On 9 August 2026 the Faculty of Technological Studies at the University of Vavuniya opened its doors to industry for the UoV NEXUS Career Fair 2026. Accron Revolutions was there as a sponsor and exhibitor, and we went in with a simple idea: a software company headquartered in Vavuniya should be the first name Vavuniya's IT students hear when they think about their first job.
This is a recap of the day, the conversations we had, and why we keep showing up on campus in the Northern Province.
Why a Vavuniya software company sponsors a Vavuniya career fair
Accron Revolutions was founded in Vavuniya in 2019 and is still headquartered here. In that time we have shipped 30+ production projects to clients in Sri Lanka, the UAE, the USA, Mexico and Nicaragua, all built by engineers who live and work in the Northern Province.
Most of those engineers started as interns. Several came to us straight from a university career fair. So when the University of Vavuniya's Faculty of Technological Studies invited industry partners to NEXUS 2026, sponsoring and exhibiting was an easy yes. The talent we want to hire is sitting in these lecture halls, and the students deserve to know they do not have to move to Colombo to build software for the world.
"Built in Vavuniya. Shipping to the world." That line on our banner is not a slogan, it is a hiring pitch.
The opening ceremony
The fair opened in the traditional way, with the lighting of the oil lamp by university officials, faculty and industry guests. Accron's team joined the procession, and the Dean's address set the tone for the day: the faculty wants its graduates employed in technology roles, and it wants local industry involved in getting them there.
What we brought to the booth
A career fair booth is only useful if students leave it knowing something they did not know before. We set ours up around three things.
01 Real products, not brochures
We demoed Accron POS, our own point-of-sale product that processes 1,000+ orders every day in live businesses, alongside client web applications and mobile apps. Students could see what code written in Vavuniya looks like when it is in production, and ask how it was built.
02 Live CV and portfolio reviews
Our engineers sat with students one at a time and went through their CVs, GitHub profiles and final-year project ideas. The same five CV mistakes came up again and again, which is exactly why we later turned them into a session for the junior batches.
03 Straight answers about hiring
What does an internship at Accron actually involve? Six months, on-site or hybrid in Vavuniya, on real client work with a mentor. What do we look for in a fresher? Fundamentals, attitude, communication and learning speed, in that order. Is there a path from intern to junior engineer? Yes, and most of our team walked it.
The session for junior batches
Alongside the exhibition, Accron ran a 60-minute session for first- and second-year students titled "From University to IT Industry: What Employers Really Look For". It covered the four myths students believe about the IT industry, the five ways into it, the four families of IT careers, a live CV teardown, a mock interview in the hot seat, and an honest answer to whether AI will replace junior developers.

What we heard from students
Three questions came up more than any other, and they are worth answering here for everyone who could not make it to the booth.
"Are there real IT jobs in Vavuniya?"
Yes. Accron is a software company in Vavuniya serving clients in five countries, and we hire interns and junior engineers from the Northern Province every year. Remote work and foreign clients mean a world-class engineering career no longer requires leaving home.
"I am in second year. Is it too early to apply for an internship?"
It is not too early to start building. A public GitHub with a few real projects, a website for a local shop, or a hackathon entry will matter more at your internship interview than your year of study. Start now, apply when you are ready.
"Do I need to be a developer to work in IT?"
No. QA testing, business analysis, project management, UX design and digital marketing are all IT careers, and all of them exist inside Accron's nine service lines.
